33rd Americas Cup Warming Up

It’s getting exciting in the Americas Cup camps, both teams are warming up both on and off the water.

While the legal battle is ongoing and stones are being thrown by both teams the fact that their boats are in Valencia and have both been on the water testing leaves the conclusion that they will in fact be racing. It would of course be the worlds biggest let down at $100m+ spend on two boats not to see them race, and of course there are very few boats which could compete.

In jest Team Alinghi have offered to host a party for BMW Oracle if they win through the courts. I certainly hope that this does not happen. We looked at the skippers earlier in the month here and both are of the highest pedigree. We’ll take a look at the boats soon.

From the videos below you can see that the both mean business.

BMW have achieve ~ 29kts in 9kts of wind

There’s no stated speed here but you expect similar speeds..

With all the positioning, legal and other, the end result seen to be one of the fairer AC events. It appeares that wind speed will be a very important criterior for cat vs tri.

Match racing? With an expected one tack, up wind tacticts will not be anything like we have seen before.

Definately I think one of the teams were looking at trying to get a cap on max wind speed towards the end of last year..
