Do Oracle aim to uphold every rule on the Americas Cup?
It would seem that Oracle not content with winning their court victory are going to continue their off water skirmish against Team Alinghy.
The most recent question is over the ‘constructed in country’. Oracle are refering in particular to Alinghys current sails which were made in Nevada. The question is valid as globalisation has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘made in’. Arguably the software which Oracle are using was not only made in the USA and I’m sure that the components in the computers on their boats which are now an integral part of racing fit well within the definition of ‘appendages’ and were almost certainly not 100% made in the USA.
Where the line is drawn will be up to the new panel of judges, Oracle have given Alinghy 5 days to respond to their question which was sent 22nd December. Alinghy hasn’t commented yet. They’ll either grit their teeth and a make sure that their sails are completed in Switzerland or at worst we could see a renewed legal battle. If the latter prevails it is likely that even some of the most enthusiastic supporters will start to get bored.
